When did Barber die? Didn't he give the Gilead graduation "overlapping generations" speech just last fall?

I am having some reservations about Barbara Anderson
by JWoods inrecently, there was a very nice thread in which one of our posters apologized for having the temerity to challenge barbara anderson.. i thought it was very nice to see that they made up and put the personal stuff aside.. however, i felt the need to call it like i really feel it - i was very put off by the barbara anderson reply in which she plugged her new promotional meeting.
it brought back memories of that horrid little affair from a couple of years back when she kept posting up "the greatest new thing about blood which will bring down the watchtower society is just around the corner -- and i could tell you but then i would have to kill you, etc."..
just like another jehovah's witnesses prophecy about the coming of the lord in our time.. i am beginning to wonder if perhaps the siren song of self-promotion is getting a little too strong for real life.. ok. i said it.. james - and saying it was not the easiest thing that i have ever done.

I hate threads like this for two reasons:
1. Because starting a thread about another poster instead of working things out via PM is tacky and violates my personal Internet etiquette.
2. Because I missed the original thread that spawned the present argument.

What video are you talking about? "The Organization Behind the Name?" or some other one?
By the way, I don't think the GB is completely isolated from the Writing Committee. I just think the GB member in charge of Writing is pretty much the only guy on the GB with significant influence there. Just as the GB member in charge of the Service Committee is pretty much the only guy from the GB with significant influence there. Barber isn't in charge of any Committees so he's basically powerless.
Don't forget, the corporate presidents and VPs and lawyers run the show. The GB have been reduced to puppets.

The threat of missing meetings?
by babygirl30 inthis morning i had the memory flashback of something my mom used to always say: that missing meetings is like missing a 'meal', and that if you don't 'eat' on a regular basis, then you will lose your life.
she would come at me with "you have to stay close to the meetings - when armaggedon comes, that is where we will get our directions on where to go and what to do".. i used to be scared not to be at meetings for fear the end would come and i would be alone...or without my parents...all because that day i didn't go to the khall.
anyone else remember that???

Fear and guilt are the two most powerful tools a cult has.
But think logically about the logistics of such an Armageddon scenario.
The world is in disarray. Wars, earthquakes, diseases, etc have ravaged the world. How are the geezers in NY supposed to dispense their directives to the local congregations? What do they know about each individual local situation that gives them the insight to direct matters from their ivory towers? For that matter, what do the local elders know about how to survive a planet-wide holocaust? Would you trust your loved one's lives to that group of goobers?
Please. The entire concept is sheer lunacy.

When religion dies....will it just roll over belly up?
by cameo-d inor will they go down with one last big fight?.
or will they reinvent themselves and return in disguise as part of the nwo?.
what do you see as the future when religions reach the tipping point of empty pews and no more $$$?.

I see religion diminishing, as it already is, and becoming more and more marginalized, but I don't see it "gone" any time soon. We still have a flat earth society for crying out loud.

How do you cope with boredom at meetings?
by MMXIV inwhat did/do you use to cope with boredom at the meetings?.
as sad as this sounds, when i was a kid and desperate for anything to do at a meeting, i used to count the punctuation in each wt study article.
i had a system.

I guess I'm new at this fading thing. I look over the paragraphs and listen to the speakers and comments to pick out the mind control techniques and how they are working. It's a fascinating study in human behavior for awhile. Then after a time it becomes really discouraging. I sometimes wish I was unethical enough to start my own cult; I'd be filthy stinking rich. But I couldn't bring myself to do it. I can barely bring myself to attend meetings at all.

I come here for reassurance that I'm not a crazy and evil apostate, that I'm doing the right thing by working my way out of the borg.

Just kidding.
These sorts of transcripts are gripping the first few you read but after awhile you already know exactly what the elders are going to say to disregard any legitimate concerns about the borg. It's frustrating to read such willful and hardheaded ignorance. While the approaches of the victims (the DFd people) are all relatively unique, the borg elder responses are canned.

Moral Question ...
by sacolton inwould you use the handicap stall that is big and roomy ... even if other smaller stalls were available?.
-
Mad Sweeney
In my building I have put an "out of order" sign on our handicapped stall in the men's room and converted it into my private office.
Oh wait, that wasn't me; that was Jeff from Chuck.
